4.    How did the knowledge of science and nature influence people’s ideas about God and religion?
5.    Compare and contrast the reasons given by the textbook for Columbus’ voyage with those given by Loewen.  Why are there different reasons and stories associated with the same events?

(A) Literary development in prose and poetry:  Discuss the political ideas of Machiavelli, Hobbes and Locke.

(B) Religious-philosophical ideas: Discuss Lutheran and Calvinist notions and their difference from Roman Catholic notions.

(C) Art and architectural themes: Discuss the development of perspective in painting and how and why Greco-Roman architecture influenced the Renaissance.
