In order to complete your Common Assignment, please read all the documents below including the basic guidelines. The three primary documents and one journal article reflect various perspectives on the immigration of Chinese settlers at the end of the 19th century. Read all the documents and consider the questions posed in the Guidelines – compare and contrast each sides of the opposing arguments. Consider what evidence is used in each source and how it impacts your perspective on the argument. Finally, consider broadly how questions of immigration today might relate to past experiences. Your paper should be 3-4 pages long (not 500 words) and should analyze the different sides (pro- and anti-Chinese immigration) of the argument.
