Detailed mass and energy balance and mechanical design
Verify the plant general mass and energy balance for their section of the process. This will require a consideration of kinetic and thermodynamic properties of the process stream and any chemical transformations occurring. Operational parameters and limits should be formalised. The plant general mass balance may need to be updated to reflect any changes required. A detailed mechanical design should be made for at least one major item of plant equipment and any ancillary equipment related to this item should be specified. This should include the specification of pumps, line sizes, valves and instrumentation etc. An outline of the intended control system should be included along with start-up and shut-down methodology for the equipment. The plant PFD should be updated to reflect any changes and a formal Engineering Line Diagram (ELD) should be produced (Visio is available).
