Many short stories explore the complexity of human nature through the complexity between our capacities for great good and well for horrific evil. Often, the evil is evidenced in the actions of characters from whom the reader would be least prepared to expect it. Write an essay in which this is illustrated through the characterization of Miss Emily Grierson, in A Rose for Emily, and Matt Fowler, in Killings. In the development, be sure to specifically identify the nature of the evil, its causes, and its effects on the character herself/himself as well as its ramifications for other characters in the story. Be sure to formulate an effective thesis, follow all procedures for literary analysis essays (titles, authors, genres, literary elements), support all statements with the strongest, most relevant quotes (MLA citations), use appropriate transitions between/within paragraphs, fully develop the thesis in the essay, fully develop the topic sentence idea in each paragraph.
