Case study:
Donahue is 62 years old and his wife of 23 years passed away two months ago. He is feeling depressed and lonely. His children are independent and living in other states with families of their own. For all of his years of marriage he was taken care of by his wife. She did all the cooking and cleaning, and general care for him. He is now having difficulty adjusting to life without her. As a result he is interested in being in another relationship. He has joined a local senior singles group and has already started dating other women who are interested in taking on the role of “wife” again. Some of his children are upset with the idea that he would so quickly start dating after the death of their mother. This has caused a lot of tension for Donahue so he is thinking of stopping. But this is causing him greater anxiety and depression.
Donahue was referred to you by one of his children. How would you work with him?
