Carl Jung theory of personality trait.

Carl Gustav Jung was born on July of 1875 in Sweden and both of his parents came from strong families within their village. He was a student at the Sigmud Freud School and a psychiatrist who came up with an important theory to the psychology field.

Introduction

A trait is the distinctive way in which a person perceives, feels, or acts. Carl Jung’s theory of personality trait refers to his psylochological classification of different types of people to their grouping of behavioural tendencies. Personality traits sometimes can be construed as quantitative differences. While describing a person, then we are expected to use trait expressions, for example u cam describe someone as having good sense of humour, very interested in material things, fond of food, and somehow infatuated.

Jung’s Introversion and Extroversion Attitudes

Introversion is the condition of or the affinity of being wholly or mainly concerned with or involved in another person’s own life, while Extraversion is the act or tendency of being mostly concerned with getting satisfaction from what is outside the personality (Ewen, R. B. 2003). Jung believed that introversion-extraversion was either that a person was born as an individual or not as an individual and will remain that way until his death, and he suggested that whether a person is an introvert or an extrovert then he should learn on how to imitate the characteristics trait of others.

Jung’s four functions of personality trait

Jung also had four functions of personality trait and they included; sensation which is the sensitivity by way of sense organs, intuition which is perceiving in an insentient way, thinking which is the making of reasonable conclusions, and finally, feeling which is the meaning of personal assess.

Eight personality types defined by Jung

Personality type is the psychological categorization of diverse types of persons, Jung’s eight personality types included; Extraverted sensation, which is a type of personality that allows an individual to practice life through their experiences (Northouse, P. G. 2007). Introverted Sensation which majorly deals with remembering of details and facts of the past events. Introverted Intuition which involves the synthesizing contradictory information and making it understandable, while extraverted intuition is the realizing of concealed meanings and interpreting them. Extraverted and Introverted thinking is the internal and external decision making respectively, Extraverted feeling which deals with the understanding of other people’s emotions and feelings in the current moment, and finally, Introverted feeling deals with someone’s own feelings and beliefs.

Applying Jung’s orientation to compete personality

In applying of Jung’s orientation to a complete personality, it can then be said that someone is not only differentiated by only one of the eight personality types, it can also be applied to help a person to understand why certain individuals act and react the way they do.

Examples of the personality questionnaires

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessment questionnaire. It is used to determine the psychological preferences of how people look at the world and come up with conclusions. By this, it can help us define the types of personality people are. In the current field of psychology, personality questionnaires can be of great help in the career guidance, especially when we want to the kinds of jobs that we are best suited to perform, and wherewe think can give us maximum happiness. In can also help in the managing of employees by trying to understand their usual capabilities and where they will find the most fulfilment.

Dominant Function of Carl Jung’s theory

The dominant function, according to, is always supported by two supplementary functions, the first auxiliary and second auxiliary function are called the secondary and tertiary function respectively as used in MBTI publications. The dominant function is used frequently than any other Jung’s functions in a more mindful and convincing way.

Carl Jung’s Achievements and Contributions

. Jung’s work is having some important contact on the social sciences, because he discovered a number of unique concepts in personality theory and self-actualization was an expression that was used by Jung to explain in agreement unification of the several mechanism and forces within the psych as was stated by Hergenham in the year 1994. He also presented a theory in the psychological thought that, “self-actualization does not really exist in real life, but life itself is a long, difficult passage of self-discovery’’ (Sahakian, W. S., 2000).

Conclusion

In conclusion, if we can agree that Jung’s theory is important, then we can develop a naturalistic theory with respect to life of our personalities.
