According to the analysis, it is not the name of the child that matters rather it is the characteristics of the parents (Dubner& Levitt, 2005).
Snob Effect and Naming after Successful people
The impact of the choice of name in relation to socioeconomic statuses of parents is evident through “snob effect” of naming (Dubner& Levitt, 2005). The successful parents often chose rare and strange names to their children who grow up and ultimately become successful. Also, the effect is seen when parents decide to name their children after successful people in order to see their children succeed as well.
Thus from the above discourse, it is clear that it is not the race of an individual that defines their success, rather it is the socio-economic status that really matter. A black who is in higher income group is likely to name his child unusual name and the child ultimately becomes successful. On the other hand, a white who is in the lower income group might just need incentive to select names that they associate with success. The converse for both cases is true.
