Essay Requirements
Due Date: Mar. 14th, 2017 (Tuesday at the start of Class)
Late papers will be penalized 5% per day. Including the first day that they are not handed in, at the start of class, and weekends. No papers will be accepted after being late 5 days.
The essay length is to be approximately 2500 words (4-6 pages). The essay must be in formal essay format. It must be typed, and it must include a bibliography and citations. Tohe citations can be done as footnotes, endnotes or, in the body of the essay. The essay will be evaluated on the following:
1. Content – your research
2. Style – your ability to write an essay – includes spelling, grammar, bibliography, citations, etc.
3. Analysis – your own analysis, opinion, point of view
This is a research essay, and must include at least three different resources. If Internet web sites are used, they must be identified by name, as well as by the Internet address. Where possible Canadian research / sources should be used.
Essay Topics
A. A comparison of Canada’s Crime Rate with any other country, in the world.
B. An analysis / comparison of any two, of the criminology theories.
C. Career criminals – explain why they exist.
D. Canada’s Crime Rate…and an analysis of the past 10 years.
E. Capital Punishment…does it deter crime?
F. Crime analysis…chooses any crime in the criminal code, and analyze the crime, as it has occurred in Canada (ie: over the past 10 years).
G. The crime rate and availability of firearms…are they related issues? And if so explain / support your answer.
H. Women and Crime…is there an increase / decrease. Why?
I. Victims of Crime in Canada…who is most likely to be a victim and why?
J. Nature vs. Nurture…are criminals made or born?
K. Any other topic DIRECTLY related to the course outline. Any such topic
