ASSIGNMENT:
Purpose The assignment is intended to provide the participant with the opportunity to
demonstrate understanding and integration of the various aspects of the programme
and this module. The aim should be to obtain, analyse and interpret financial data (in
the light of theoretical research where possible), and to assess non-financial objectives
and to integrate them into a balanced decision making framework.
Task Prepare an investigatory business report using financial information from the
participant’s work experience or simulation with a view to making suggestions for
future direction and improvement.
The report should include, among other things:
1. Introduction – brief organisational background, the participant’s role, objectives,
methodology, etc.
2. Numerical investigation.
3. Use of communications and information technologies.
4. Findings – analysis and interpretation of results.
5. Problems, obstacles or failures to meet organisational objectives (if applicable),
qualitative assessment.
6. Solutions, conclusions and/or recommendations.
7. Reflection and critique of your learning process during the module and the
assignment.
8. One -page summary – containing the key features and figures of the report. This
page must be placed at the beginning of the report, on coloured paper to make
it stand out.
You can choose to supply a preliminary one-page proposal to the tutor for approval,
giving a clear title, theme, objectives and methodology of the study.
Style The report should be coherent, complete, clear and concise (maximum 3,000 words
excluding reflection, tables, graphs and appendices) making good use of headings,
tables, graphs, diagrams, etc. and presented in suitable typed format using appropriate
IT methods with balanced use of appendices, contents listings, proper referencing,
bibliography, word count, etc. The introductory section should be brief and the
material in the appendices limited to essential information only. The report should be
predominately analytical rather than descriptive.
