The issue that I will be addressing in my final paper is if a business can refuse service or to provide goods or services based on religious beliefs.  Recently, there have been several instances were small businesses have refused to provide goods or services based on their disagreement with the customer’s intent to use the product or service.  Specifically, there has been a bakery shop that has refused to bake a cake for a wedding because it was between gays.  I think this is a great topic and very interesting to look at from the law standpoint that protects individuals, thus businesses as an individual entity, and their religious freedoms.  Yet, there are times when religious views differ and the question becomes who should have to do what.

I think two ethical theories that I will evaluate the event from would be religious fundamentalism and probably utilitarianism.  Religious fundamentalism is the idea that ethics are derived directly from religious views and utilitarianism is the idea of bringing about the greatest good for the most people.

I think this issue will fall under civil law.  In addition, it will also be interesting to view this issue from a contract standpoint.
