Assignment: Write a 5 – 7 page paper (1.5-spaced, 12-point font) that concerns a specific aspect of cell pathology, relating cellular events to organismal effects. Examples of such topics include:
• Problems with a membrane pump protein in cystic fibrosis
• Problems with peroxisomal protein import in Zellweger syndrome
• The role of telomerase activity in cancer cells
• The role of cell adhesion proteins in metastasis
• Problems with a sphingolipid-degrading enzyme in Tay-Sach’s disease
The topic you choose must be approved by the instructor. You are expected to use the primary literature as the basis of your report (i.e. consult recent journal articles for your information). These references must be listed at the end of the paper (not part of the 5-7 page limit) and appropriately cited in the body of the report.
