Berlioz’ work

Think about Berlioz’s work, the Symphonie Fantastique. He has a very specific, yet fantastical, storyline that he really brings to life. To me, this is almost like film music! It references a complete story. Read the program notes in your external links. He wrote this story specifically for this piece of music.

Pick a movement from the symphony(not the same as your listening list) one, two, three, or five, and describe it. What is Berlioz’s style? How does he infuse his personality into the music, and how does he portray the program in his composition? Does the music mirror the program notes–the story–that Berlioz wrote? Please quote from the program notes Berlioz wrote for this composition and reference specifics in the music of the portrayal of the story. I really expect you to listen to the music and bring specifics to the discussion about this AMAZING piece of music.
