Situation Exercise IV
In this assignment, each student will examine the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of one your company’s competitors. In addition to providing an essential evaluation of your competition, the results will point to challenges facing your own company in the marketplace. We assume that your team is about to have a meeting to review its progress in the marketplace. This assignment is pre-work for that meeting.
Competitor Analysis:
Choose one of your Capstone competitors. Make sure that each member of your team is analyzing different competitors.
Provide a detailed evaluation of your chosen competitor including:
1.A short assessment of their current strategic position — products, regional market segments, plants, capital structure, source of competitive advantage, etc. Consider their product line from a “consumer reports” standpoint.
2. Given the segments they have selected, assess their current opportunities and threats. Which market specific challenges do they face relative to Porter’s Five Forces of the major markets in which they operate? What are their core competencies and can they maintain a competitive advantage in the markets selected?
3. How might their financial structure affect their profitability?
4. Given the above analysis, predict their sales and profits for the ending year of the simulation relative to your company.
