The purpose of this essay is to examine a food you eat in its global and historical context. You need to consider both domestication and early production as a food crop as well as the current trade, economic and environmental issues involved in its production.
The essay should be fairly short: aim for somewhere between 700-800 words.
It must be standard written English (do not turn in a series of bullet points, for example).
You must consider the product in terms of labor and materials.
Your essay must include documented evidence; Your references may be either parenthetical or bottom-of-the-page footnotes; choose one or the other but do not mix the two in a single essay.
Your essay must include material from The World that Trade Created and from Coffee: A Dark History.
Submit your essay as a word document. When documents are downloaded for grading, pdf and rtf files are often missed.
Be sure your essay has been submitted for grading and not only as a draft; if it is left in “draft” stage, it will not get downloaded for grading.
