Pretend you are a journalist who has been able to go back in time in a time machine. You are reporting today for a news broadcast about things that happened in colonial South America after the arrival of the Spanish. You should be discussing how the arrival of the Spanish has affected the native populations. Feel free to discuss aspects of life for the natives, the newly arrived Spanish or the slaves that have been imported to the Spanish colonies. If you choose to discuss slaves, please focus on their lives once they have arrived in the colonies and not on their journey; their journey is important and should be mentioned but shouldn’t be the focus of your assignment. Use the material in this lesson and research the Internet to find the information to make your story interesting. Your viewers need to know:
a) (Who) are the people about whom you are reporting?
b) (What) their lives are like and what is the time period about which you are reporting?
c) (Why) should they care about what happened a long time ago?
d) (Where) In what area of the world are you?
e) (How) do the people about whom you are reporting live? What do they feel?
You may pretend to interview one or more people. Please include the questions you ask and their answers in your report. Also include a picture of a map of South America, and identify exactly the area from which you are reporting. Make those who read or hear your report really care about the people whose lives you are sharing.
