Choose two of the questions below
1. Imagine you are hired as a consultant by the Ministry of Economic Development in a developing country. Would you advise the government to adopt policies which ensures the proper functioning of market mechanisms or use macro-economic policies that annuls such mechanisms? Give examples of the concrete policies you would favor and justify them.
2. Should developing countries see developed countries as role models? Or would that be detrimental to their development efforts? Justify your position.
3. Is there a trade-off between economic growth and environmental protection? What is the best way to deal with this problem? Make sure to discuss at least one alternative you will completely dismiss.
4. What is the relationship between democracy and development? Is democracy a result of development or vice versa? Are democratic institutions and practices good or bad for development? Or are they irrelevant?
you have to write 4 pages for each question.
1- Your answer should present a position on the question. Summarizing readings related to the question and then writing an out-of-context conclusion paragraph that says one of the perspectives is more convincing than others is not a good strategy. From the very start, you should take a position, and make an argument about why your position is better than others. Invest in an argument and deal with possible counter-arguments. Original thinking will be rewarded.
2- There are no right or wrong answers, you can defend multiple positions plausibly. This does not mean that you can say about anything. You need to support your arguments by evidence. The easiest way to do that is to directly use the evidence from the readings, if you bring evidence from other sources, please be sure to cite them.
