Each essay must have the following criteria:
❏ Cover page with original title, student name, name of section instructor, name of course
instructor, and date.
❏ Must be 1.5 pages long or 300¬500 words, single spaced, and 12 pt. Times New Roman
Font.
❏ Thesis must begin with: “In this paper, I argue …,” “This paper argues …,” or something
similar to signals to the reader your argument.
❏ Must reference both films that were screened in lecture that week.

❏ Must provide one quote from one of the readings for that week.
❏ Must make one reference to material presented in lecture.

Prompt:
We began this week by discussing the meaning of white supremacy. In this essay, we want you to
reflect on how and why white supremacy has shaped the racialization of people of Asian,
African, Mexican, and European descent in different ways. You should also consider how
eugenics and lynching have shaped common genocidal experiences.
In your response answer the following questions. How does “White” as a racial identity come
into formation to strengthen white supremacy? How is a system of racial chattel slavery
sustained and re¬articulated when it is abolished? How does the racialized beliefs of Asian
immigrants shape their experiences and help the U.S. define itself as a global power?
