PURPOSE: the writing of a reflective academic essay encourages you to explore feelings and reactions to stimuli experienced on a day to day basis spanning home, work and personal environments. This form of reflection is beneficial in defining and acknowledging barriers, strengths and preferences. The writing of an academic essay using the material generated in the reflective journal enables you to connect theory to lived experience.

PROCESS: use a reflective journal, over a two week period, to record (in writing) when you are feeling either: highly motivated to achieve something or make something happen; or, not motivated to get moving or unable to take action, linking the experiences of and low motivation to thoughts, feelings and behaviors at these times. You are to write an essay using theories of motivation presented in this unit to analyse the experiences recorded in the reflective journal and to explain how the selected motivational theories chosen could be applied to enhance the work performance of employees in an organisation. The reflective diary itself is not to be submitted.

YOUR REFLECTIVE ESSAY WILL NEED TO INCLUDE:
– An overview of experiences recorded in the reflective journal
– A more developed account of the experiences analysed in more detail
– An account of the theories of motivation utilised to analyse your selected experiences
– An analysis of the selected experiences using the chosen theories of motivation
– An account of how the selected motivational theories chosen could be applied to enhance the work performance of employees in an organisation
