In explaining why some social groups could successfully organize their challenges when others could not, each of these theories emphasize different aspects of social movements or the environments in which they occur.
Focusing on the following 5 theories,
• Breakdown Theory
• Solidarity Theory (aka organizational capacity)
• Resource Mobilization Theory
• Political Opportunities Theory

(a) Discuss how these theories differ from each other in their explanation of what is the ultimate determinant of movement mobilization and success and when (or under what conditions) social movements have their best chances of success [30 POINTS]
(b) Apply each of the theories to the Occupy Wall Street movement and explain how each of the theories would explain why the movement failed at that time [20 POINTS]
