Answer the following question
1.Visit the Google Art Project: http://www.googleartproject.com/ (Links to an external site.). Go to the National Gallery in London and find Titian’s Meeting of Bacchus and Ariadne. Between Bacchus and Ariadne is an expanse of deep space. Ariadne thrust her hand toward the horizon, a gesture that intensifies our awareness of the recession. Why did Titian want the viewer to notice the distance?
2.Compare and contrast the below two images. These two images of the Madonna show vast differences in how the human body is depicted. Describe the aesthetic differences between them. Contrast the features of Raphael’s portrait (High Renaissance) to those found in Parmigianino’s painting (Mannerist). (Picture is in the upload)

3.Visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art and read the description of Pieter Brueghel the Elder’s print

Sloth- Desidia (Links to an external site.) . Explain how this print represents Northern European iconography during the Reformation. How does it relate to the images by the artist in your text?

If you are unable to find this print on their website- pick a diferent work by the artist that is not in the book and perform a similar analysis. Make sure you list the title and date of the work you are referencing in your response.

4.You have been asked to select paintings that illustrate economic conditions in Spain and Northern Europe in the 16 th century. Identify the three paintings you will include and explain your selections.

5.Visit the National Gallery of Art’s site dedicated to El Greco ( http://www.nga.gov/collection/gallery/gg29/gg29-main1.html (Links to an external site.) ). View the paintings and read the accompanying text. Then answer the following questions.

Identify the painting that originally hung opposite El Greco’s Saint Martin and the Beggar .
Identify the painting in which Christ is presented in the pietà pose.
Identify the painting of the patron saint of Toledo.
Identify the painting with a saint engaged in penance.
