You are to submit a research question that consists of a title and three objectives.
The title should clearly embody the aim of your intended study. The objectives should break the title into sub topics that need to be answered in order to achieve your aim.
You are to develop a research project into one of the issues raised in the work. As you develop your proposal, you should consider the following:
1. Your objective should be focussed on a specific issue raised in the report that can be fully researched within a word count of 4800 words.
2. You will be expected to analyse secondary data in your report. You will not be permitted to use primary data, so you will need to ensure that you have identified the source of your data when you are developing the question that you intend to answer.
3. You will need to identify the type of business report most suited to the question that you are intending to answer. You should select from the following:
A theoretical report. With this type of report you would research literature to identify the current state of understanding where theory is concerned. You would then investigate a case study of your choice to ascertain the extent to which patterns identified in theory is evident. The source of material for this part of the work would be company reports and web sites or similar secondary material.
A feasibility study With this type of report you would be investigating whether a business opportunity should be exploited. You would explain the opportunity and then assess the associated benefits and risks. You should use a mix of theory and secondary data to inform your report.
A yardstick report This type of report enables the researcher to consider a variety of potential solutions to a problem. The problem is described before presenting a range of theoretical solutions. These are then assessed to determine their suitability with respect to the particular characteristics of the problem.
Literature should be used to establish the potential solutions, and secondary data should enable you to identify the nature of the problem.

The structure of your proposal
The template for your proposal is attached. You should complete each section as instructed. When you are developing the methodology you should include ethical considerations.

Submission to Turnitin of Work Submitted for Assessment
Turnitin is an internet-based text matching service that has been developed by a commercial company. It is used, under license, by most UK Universities, including the University of East London. Work that is submitted to Turnitin generates a Turnitin Originality report, showing which parts of it have been reproduced from which sources. The system compares submissions to material that is to be found: on the world-wide web; in its database of previous submissions; and in its growing number of databases of published articles. You should not assume that a Turnitin Originality report with a low similarity index is evidence that the piece of work concerned is free from plagiarism.

Our policy on the use of Turnitin recognises the educational desirability that all of our students should enjoy the opportunity to self-submit their work to Turnitin (before submitting for assessment). We also recognise that Turnitin Originality Reports will sometimes assist in the identification of plagiarised work submitted for assessment.

Notice is hereby given that all submissions of reports for this Module must be submitted to Turnitin. Detailed guidance on how to submit your work to Turnitin will be made available on this Module’s Moodle site.

If you fail to submit your report to Turnitin, in accordance with the guidance on the Moodle site, you will be awarded a mark of 0 for the component.
Please be aware that:
• The Turnitin site will advise you that late submissions are accepted. This is only for the purposes of allowing students who are claiming extenuation to submit their work.

• Withdrawal from the module could result in your access to the Turnitin site being unavailable even if you have been reinstated to the module. Please check that you have access to the site during working hours before the due date because you may need to contact your module leader to ask for the link to be reinstated.

If you cannot upload your work for technical reasons, e-mail it to your module leader and it will be uploaded on your behalf. If you do this you must still satisfy the deadlines.
Important information about late submission
The material that you submit to Turnitin will be marked. The deadline applies so you are advised not to submit after 11.00 pm, because it could take some time for your submission to upload, and the delay could cause the work to be received after 11.59 pm.

If you fail to meet the deadline:
You will find a tab in the Turnitin with a later deadline, that you can use until 11.59pm on the following day.
If you use this tab, your work will be marked, but you will be penalised by 5 marks.
Do not use this tab If you already have a submission to Turnitin made before the deadline because we will only mark work in this tab if there is no submission made before the deadline.
If you fail to get any work submitted in either of the above tabs: A further tab will allow you to submit work between 24 hours late and within a week of the deadline. You will only receive a mark for this work if a claim for extenuation is successful.
You will find information about how to make a claim for extenuation at: http://www.uel.ac.uk/qa/studentsarea/extenuation/
Forassistance in making a claim, please go to the student union. Please do not refer to your module leader / seminar tutor for assistance. It is their job to uphold the deadline and they are not permitted to assist in extenuation claims.
