1.)  In regards to The Women”s Kingdom, in your opinion is a conventional marriage or a walking marriage better for society?  What would be the biggest barrier for people if they wished to start practicing walking marriages in the western world, such as in the United States?  What shapes an individual”s view on marriage?

Group 20:

 

1.)  In Chapter 5 the book discusses that in the Ju/wasi culture wealth is unimportant to them within their lives, it then goes on to explain that they focus more on sex, love, and beauty. Why is it that looks, and sex are more important than wealth, and security in this culture? Do you think that what they believe in is a good way to live, or do you think wealth and security should be the main focus? Explain your answer.

 

2.)  In your specific family tradition, how important is your wealth. Is happiness more important? Depending on which one you choose why does that specific thing come first in your mind?

 

3.)  Which family composition does your family most closely resemble? Is there another that you think would be more effective/you would like more?

BUDDHIST NUNS

YOUR INSTRUCTIONS – In 2001, nuns were invited to perform rituals in the Leh Jokhang for the first time. You are a feminist anthropologist interested in cultural change, and will be traveling to Ladakh in the summer of 2017 to conduct research with nuns. What are two of your main research questions and why? Please answer this question by first explaining what feminist anthropology is, and second by presenting and discussing your two original research questions. The research you propose to do must make sense in terms of the local cultural situation as well as be rooted in feminist anthropological concerns.
