1.    Typed, double spaced, with 1” margins, 12-pt readable font.
2.    Your report should be a minimum of seven pages and a maximum of ten pages.  This includes the Title Page through and including the Literature Cited page.
a.    Number your pages consecutively throughout the report (including the first page) in the upper right-hand corner of each page. Type your last name before the page number.
3.    Your paper must have the following parts:  Title page, Table of Contents, Abstract, Introduction, Discussion, Conclusion, and Literature Cited.
a.    Please use these subtitles in your paper:  Table of Contents, Abstract, Introduction, Discussion, Conclusion, and Literature Cited.
4.    No errors in spelling/grammar/punctuation/capitalization.
5.    Make sure to use complete sentences.
6.    Define any technical terms that you use.
7.    Proofread your report for errors before you submit it.  Use grammar/spell check.

Your writing should:
1.    Show that you have thoroughly read the book.
2.    Show that you completely understand the theme or focus.
3.    Show that you understand the important points.
4.    Be clear, well-thought-out and organized.
5.    Motivate the reader to continue thinking about the subject.
6.    Engage the reader and show originality.
7.    Your opinion should be clearly stated, giving reasons/examples for your preferences.
8.    Explain likes and dislikes of the book; share several specific examples; provide a recommendation for suitable age and interest group; recommendation is supported by specific reasons.
Specific Instructions
Title page
1.    Put the following information on your title page.
a.    Title of the book.
b.    Author of the book
c.    Your name
d.    Your instructor’s name
e.    The course name, number, and section.
f.    The date.

Table of Contents – Use this heading
1.    Indicate the parts of your report using headings/subheadings along with the page numbers.
2.    The page numbers go on the right side of the page.

Abstract – Use this heading
1.    Briefly summarize what the book is about.
2.    Include the major points, and state the scope or purpose of the book.

Introduction – Use this heading
1.    The first section of a book report consists of a simple paragraph that introduces the topic and the main idea of the book report.
2.    The introduction includes the title of the book, the author’s name and topic or theme.
3.    If the author has written other similar works, include that mention here or in the conclusion.
4.    The most important sentence is the thesis statement, the sentence that tells the main idea of the book report.
5.    Describe the setting or settings of the book.  Note where the action takes place and when.

Discussion – Use this heading
1.    This is the body of the book report.
2.    This section consists of several developmental paragraphs.
3.    Write at least four to five paragraphs that clearly describe the book. Each paragraph should cover one topic (for example, you should have at least one paragraph that describes the main character).
a.    The first paragraph is a synopsis or brief summary of the book organized in the same order as the book itself.
b.    The next two or three body paragraphs explain topics related to the subject matter. Organize them in order of importance: easy to understand first, followed by the unknown, complicated, difficult to understand.
4.    Develop each paragraph using a topic sentence followed by supporting details which explain or support the topic sentence, transition words to link the details and a concluding statement.
5.    Add direct quotations from the book to support the general statements and to lend authenticity to the report.
a.    Use quotations sparingly.
6.    What is the main focus in the book, was a problem solved, can it be solved, who solved it, and why/why not?
7.    End the report with a closing paragraph that summarizes what you learned from the book and if you liked or disliked the book (and why).
a.    Your opinion should be clearly stated, giving reasons/examples for your preferences.
b.    Explain likes and dislikes of the book; share several specific examples; provide a recommendation for suitable age and interest group; recommendation is supported by specific reasons.
