Air quality engineering, AP Meteorology

Using the Pasquill letter codes for stability (given in Table 9-1 posted in Bb Learn) indicates what you believe

would be the stability code for the following conditions. In addition to specifying the stability classification
code, use the terms stable , Unstable or inversion, neutral, slightly stable or slightly unstable to describe each
condition.

a) A clear cool morning in late fall, cloudless and sun is up. U10 (wind speed at 10 meters) 0 m/s b) High noon
on a sunny summer day with light cloud cover and U10 = 3 m/s.
c) A dark, overcast and windy late afternoon day in August when U10 = 7 m/s. d) Midmorning on a cloudless, cold
January day when U10 = 1 m/s.
e) Midnight and cloudless with U10 = 2 m/s.
f) Noon on a sunny September day when U10 5 m/s and there is 50% cloud cover.
Using the ambient air temperature profile data given below, construct a temperature profile plot and estimate the
maximum mixing height for the following:

a) Air on the ground that is warmed to a temperature of 18 C.
b) A process gas having a temperature of 25 C and exhausted horizontally from a vent that is located 20-meters
above the ground.

(meter) Temperature. ( C)

Problem #3.3

Using the ambient air temperature data presented below, construct 3 different air temperature profile plots. and
indicate the stability condition near the ground, and if an inversion exists.
