On 1 January 2014, the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science and the University of Life Sciences merged and became -NMBU, the
Norwegian University of Life Sciences. NMBU has 1700 employees and 5100 students, and is currently located on two campuses – As,
about 30 km south of Oslo, and Adamstuen in Oslo. In 2019, the new research- and education-building for veterinary science will be
completed and all of NMBU will then be located at Campus As.

Doctoral Fellowship in International Environment and Development Studies

The Department of International Environment and Development Studies (Noragric) at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Norwegian
University of Life Sciences (NMBU) invites applications for a doctoral fellowship in International Environment and Development Studies.
The selected candidate is expected to start the doctoral studies in August/September 2016.
As a department at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the NMBU, Noragric is engaged in education, research, institutional collaboration
and assignments within international environment and development studies. The Department has a PhD programme in International
Environment and Development Studies, three Master’s programmes and a Bachelor’s programme. The Department has approximately
35 Doctoral candidates and 450 students. Research at Noragric is organised within four research clusters: Climate Change, Agriculture
and Development; Conflict, Human Security and Development; Environmental Governance; and Rights and Power in Development. For

Research project
The Department hereby invites proposals for PhD projects that are aimed at developing new knowledge on agri-food systems within the
broader field of International Environment and Development Studies. Priority will be given to creative and innovative proposals
addressing “agri-food systems and environmental change” within or across the following thematic foci:

o Agri-cultures: Research on agriculture as coupled human-environment systems;

0 Agri-food system transformation in the face of environmental change;

0 Agrobiodiversity and seed systems.
Agriculture and food features prominently in current debates about sustainable development. Current research approaches are often
framed around agri-food system research. Agricultural development research focus on joint advancement of productivity, nutrition and
sustainability outcomes. Society-environment research highlights how agriculture, food and the environment is entangled with cultural,
social and political factors. We are seeking proposals that address agri-food system challenges and solutions from across this
disciplinary spectrum.
Main tasks
The Department’s PhD programme consists of mandatory and elective courses with oral and written examinations and a major research

Remuneration
The selected candidate will be appointed as a doctoral research candidate for a period of three or four years, depending on duty work for
the department. The salary starts at level 50 (NOK 430 200 per annum) and follows ordinary meriting regulations. The total additional
funding available for running expenses for the PhD studies is NOK 96 000 NOK.
