agency or organization of the criminal justice system
Each student is responsible for writing a well-researched and documented paper on an agency or organization of the criminal justice system of his or her choice. The paper should show a good understanding of the agency’s/organization’s functional philosophy, administrative structure and functions, and a sound understanding of the theoretical assumptions that govern the existence and operations of the agency and those that are similar. (For example, every prison is a correctional facility, which operates within the confines of correctional theories, expectations and circumstances.) It should be a well-organized and referenced paper, double space typed and at least seven pages in length, which is in complete compliance with the APA style.
In preparing for the paper each student must interview a senior administrator of the agency as a basis for
understanding organizational mission, goals and objectives, division of responsibilities or tasks and problem
solving. The paper should include an organizational chart showing the functional structure of the
organization. Students may loose up to 15 points for poor references and if they fail to include a good
organizational chart.
