Abstract
In the early 1940s and 50s age prejudice was not a legal matter that was addressed in most states. In the 1950s old aged was defined as forty to sixty-five years of age. However, in 1967, Congress and President Lyndon B. Johnson decided to respond to the rampant age discrimination occurring in the work place by signing into law the Age Discrimination Employment Act (ADEA). The ADEA established that ageism is an irreconcilable act that does not belong in American society. An analysis of the history of ageism reveals the current challenges the senior community still confronts in their everyday lives despite the passage of the ADEA. In this paper I plan to identify actions that should be taken to reduce ageism in the work environment.

Considering I am a Baby- boomer I am more than aware of ageism in the workplace I am living it. My main goal is to extend the senior companion program which is seniors helping seniors a federally funded program.
