Essay Prompt:
Analyze the setting (time and place) as created and described in the work. How does the author show the intricacies of the time, place, and culture there? What might the author think about the setting and how can you tell? Be sure to consider such things as dialect, colloquialism, character types, and other useful details particular to the novel.
This should require no outside research or knowledge. So the analysis is not what you know about the time period from history class, or what an interview with the author says. You should use details from the book to support your answer.
