A 4-year-old boy presents to his primary care provider with a severe sore throat, chills and fever.  The boys mother tells you that he couldnt sleep all night.  Upon examination, there is pharyngeal and tonsillar erythema and exudate formation.
a. Describe the early and late stages of inflammation including the cells and mediators involved.
b. Discuss the systemic response to infection including the hematological changes and the role of acute phase reactants.
c. Describe the cytokine-mediated pathophysiological process that occurs with the common cold.
