Papers should be written in double-spaced, 12 point, Times New Roman font. No need for a title page, or a paper title. Do not do any outsideresearch. If you need to refer to or quote from one of our course readings, add a citation (see syllabus for the author, year, and title of allcourse readings).Write a paper on oneof the following prompts:1. Choose a version of either the permitting too much or the demanding too much objection to act utilitarianism. Write a paper in which you:
(1) Explain what act utilitarianism is.
(2) Explain why, according to this objection, act utilitarianism is not the correct moral theory.
(3) Either defend act utilitarianism against the objection, or show that act utilitarians cannot satisfactorily respond to the objection.
2. According to some consequentialists, some considerations other than utility matter intrinsically (or in themselves). Choose eitherequality, priority, or desert, and write a paper in which you:
(1) Explain why someone might think that this consideration matters intrinsically, or in itself.
(2) Explain an objection to this view, and
(3) Either defend the intrinsic value of the consideration against this objection, or argue that the objection succeeds, i.e., thisconsideration does not matter intrinsically or in itself.Note: for this Paper 2 assignment, you will review a peers paper and have your paper reviewed by a peer, in turn. You will then revise thepaper (probably heavily) in light of the critical comments you receive, and submit it as Paper 3 several weeks later.
Papers are due forpeer review at the beginning of lecture on Fri Mar 4. Completed peer reviewforms and marked-up drafts of your peers paper aredue at the beginning of lecture on Mon Mar 7. (This will complete the Paper 2 assignment.) No late papers will be accepted.
