In Geographies of Home, the main characters Iliana, Papito, Aurelia, Mariana, Tico and Rebecca all struggle to find “home” in the United States. Describe the complex nature of “home” for these immigrants from the Dominican Republic as it is described in the novel. How is the search for “home” impacted by issues such as race, language, religion, class and economic status? Choose 3 of the characters in the novel and elaborate on how they attempt to create “home”. Are they successful? How? If they are not successful why do you think that is not the case?
