Book: Interpersonal Communication: Everyday Encounters, 8th Edition
Julia T. Wood

Amy met Hailley at the beginning of the school year and was drawn to her because she seemed confident and positive. Over several months, they became good friends. Two months ago, Hailley started dating Dan. At first Hailley seemed happy with Dan, but then she started becoming less extroverted and a lot less positive. Often, when Amy suggests doing something together, Hailley says she can’t because Dan doesn’t like her not to be available to him. When Amy sees them together, she notices that Dan doesn’t treat Hailley with respect. Amy is concerned that Hailley may be in a relationship that is verbally or physically abusive. She wants to help.
Amy:
I’m just worried about you. I don’t like the way he treats you.
Hailley:
Because he called me clumsy? I am clumsy, and besides, if I do something stupid, I can’t expect him not to notice.
Amy:
But he doesn’t show any respect for you at all.
Hailley:
Well, he’s a guy. He says what he’s thinking. I know a lot of people’s boyfriends are like that. Besides, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Dan. I think I just have to stop doing things that make him mad.

Note: I will be great if the writer can find that book.
