Write a 1,000 word concert report on one of the performances:
From MetOpera on Demand via Mt SAC Library, you can watch Richard Strauss’s Salome; Verdi’s La traviata; Puccini’s Madama Butterfly; or any of the Wagner operas.
From the NY Philharmonic archives (Links to an external site.), any symphony concert that features music post-1750.
The report will include:
250 words on the venue, either the Metropolitan Opera house, or David Geffen Hall. You will need to research these halls.
250 words on the artists. Choose either the conductor or the soloist to describe. You will need to research online. Describe his/her music education, and career.
250 words on the composer(s). Describe his/her music education, style, and output. Research appropriately. The most accurate source is the Oxford Music Dictionary, via Databases from the Mt SAC Library.
250 words on one of the selections, whether it be an aria, an ensemble piece, or one movement of a symphony. What is the style? Describe the phrasing, instrumentation, and compare it to a piece that you learned in this course.
Rubric (100 points total)
Comprehensiveness. 50 points for including all components of the report.
Accuracy. 20 points for accurate information.
Analysis. 20 points for accurate analysis of songs.
Style and grammar. 10 points for accurate spelling, use of grammar, and accurate citations.
