Paradise Lost
This paper is on John Milton’s Paradise Lost. Many say that Milton’s epic places females as inferior to males, which causes much gender conflict. Analyze the text and use it to support the argument that Eve’s inferiority in the text is really a testament of her superiority and individualism. Use the text to support how Eve is actually just as independent and autonomous as Adam, also that the belief that they are unequal is in fact Satan’s view (for this use Book IV, Lines 295-299).
Towards the end you must also address the counter argument and talk against it to further support your argument. Take a piece of text that may be used to support the counter argument and fight against it to defend your point (Possibly the part in Book X where God punishes them and addresses Eve as lesser than Adam).
Be sure to draw from the text to support each claim in the paper. Use direct quotes from the texts including a few block quotes to defend your argument and make it clear.
No outside sources. The only source to be used is the epic itself, [The Complete Poetry and Essential Prose of John Milton]. The only other poems to be used could be one of Milton’s other poems from the same book if they are being used to compare Eve to another of Milton’s female characters, which will support your claim.
THIS IS NOT TO BE A SIMPLE SUMMARY OF THE POEMS. A SUMMARY WLL RESULT IN A FAILING GRADE. MAKE AN ARGUMENT!
What are you as a writer arguing Make an argument and use the text to support your argument. State your argument in the thesis statement in the introduction. The thesis should tell exactly what your paper is going to argue, and the body of the paper should always be able to relate back to the thesis.
