what is he using it for)? In answering these questions, explain how and why he thinks his use of doubt
must be radical, universal, and methodological. What are the kinds of conclusions that can come from
doubt when used in the way Descartes does? Another way to ask this is, what is doubt good for when
used properly, according to Descartes? Do you agree? Why or why not?

Thesis: Through Descartes’ meditations, one can only prove that there is some level of thought. The issue becomes whether there is sufficient evidence to substantiate existence or if Descartes could have more deeply investigated his radical doubt. Although some pieces of his argument can be substantiated, it is clear that the act of self-doubt does not assure one’s establishment as a “thinking thing.”
