Topic: This is the aspect where I am struggling the most. I am not entirely sure what I want to achieve with the research. The general topic I am looking at is Photovoltaic Panels. I have sourced a dissertation (find attached) from 2014 that Evaluates the Financial Viability of PV Panel systems. I particularly appreciate this dissertation because it removes the requirement of interviews or questionnaires. The research, is based purely on data. I am fond of the clearly outlined hypothesis and success criteria. I really like the formatting, its simple and straight forward. For example, “here is my statement”, “here is how to validate/invalidate said statement”. I would like the research to be based on this principle. In regards to the literature review, I believe some of the information found in the attached dissertation will also be applicable to mine.

In essence I want to build my dissertation on the foundations set by the attached paper. However I need to make this paper “mine” by changing the aim of the research.

One possible avenue with the research is to produce the same type of Study but with considerations to The Feed-in Tariffs (Amendment) Order 2015 (SI 2015/35) that was made on 15 January 2015 and is due to come into force on 1 April 2015. However I am concerned as to whether the writer can source the case studies and produce the analysis as in the attached dissertation.

Another dissertation topic could be Photovoltaics and UK Local Authorities, however I don’t have any idea as to what direction to steer the aim of the research. Maybe A study of the effects incurred by Local Authorities given recent changes in legislation. However I’m not really sure where this research will take us. I am a lot more comfortable with the above topic.
