Why Smoking is bad

Many among you by now have already heard of the negative effects of smoking. Most individuals choose to ignore these warnings and continue with the habit. Smoking like most prohibited drugs is addictive and very harmful to our bodies. The negative effects of smoking are not only limited to the smokers but also affects the health of non-smokers. I have categorized the bad effects of smoking into three; health risks, appearance and inconvenience.

Health Risks

Approximately 400, 000 people die annually because of tobacco that is found in cigarettes. Of the 400,000 people, 65,000 of them die of lung cancer. Additionally, it also causes cancers of the mouth, throat, and tongue among others. If you have already started smoking, you might reconsider it if at all you want to live a long healthy life. It is also advisable to stay away of smokers. Secondary smoke is harmful to even the non-smokers. Smoking has negative effects on most organs of the body and mostly the lungs. Other minor risks are colds, flu and coughs.

Appearance

You probably will know if somebody is a smoker, the moment that you meet with them. Smoking causes bad breath that is quite unattractive. Cigarette smoke causes the yellowing of teeth, wrinkling of the skin, blackening of fingers and yellowing of finger nails.

Inconvenience

Most of the places do not allow smoking and would need an individual to go to a convenient place to smoke. Additionally, many people do not like smokers, and it would put off many people from associating with smokers. Smokers would have to interrupt their daily activities to take a smoking break which reduces their productivity to a certain level. The habit is expensive and causes headaches, nausea, the inability to concentrate, jumpiness among others.

Conclusion

There are a number of reasons why people start smoking, and they range from peer influence to the reason that their family does it. The harmful smoke not only hurts smokers, but also other people who are around. Many smokers may claim that it is only their body that they are harming. But far from it, they are also harming others around them. Deciding to quit will be beneficial to ourselves and those around us that we so much care about. Avoiding will also be good if one has not already started. Why choose to kill ourselves in order to look trendy?
