Study hypotheses are that: the longer it takes for a patient to get started with the benzodiazepine, the more likely it is that the patient will require a larger dosage of benzodiazepines; the use of CIWA (Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Alcohol) does not decrease the overall volume of benzodiazepines needed when start of usage is delayed; and the use of CIWA reduces the usage of benzodiazepines only in a subsection of patients receiving it when used early on.
