The essays by Beardsley  and the reading in But Is It Art? chapter 6If I died some time ago, and companies are still presenting my work, with variations, is it still my original work of art? If yes, how, and why? If not, why not, and how not? When you critique those performances, long past my death, are you critiquing my original work, the variation on it, the idea, the embodiment, or all of the above? Where do the distinctions lie?In order to understand and interpret my work, would you have needed to know, for example, that I was trained in the Russian tradition under great masters and represented the style of a whole “school” of artistic tradition? Does it matter?
