Mock ConferenceScenario: You and the parent need to meet to discuss a concern you have with his/her preschool child?s behavior in school.
Prepare a plan for the parent-teacher conference and include the following:
? A sample letter inviting parents/family for the conference (You have already determined the best time and day through your survey and /or other communication with the family)
? An introduction: State the goal and purpose for the parent-teacher conference. Describe the
behavior concern to be addressed.
? Write a mock parent-teacher conference dialogue
o Write what you would actually say to the parent, from start to finish and what you might expect the parent to say.
o Indicate what you would improve or change if the conversation became confrontational or
emotional
o Indicate what accommodations you would make if the family?s home language is not English
and/or any accommodations you may wish to make if the family?s culture is different from
yours.
? Include samples of materials you would bring to this conference (e.g., observation records, the child?s behavior management plan, documentation of methods tried in the classroom to change/reduce the inappropriate behavior, etc.)
? Include samples of any materials that you would provide to the parent at the end of the meeting (e.g., a behavior chart to use at home, tips for observing behavior, tips for re-directing, etc.)
