What were your concerns, your issues, or problems that you encountered at that stage in your life? How would you describe your social location (in terms of your parents, family, race, your class, your gender, your ability or inability, your weight or religion for instance)? In what ways do you feel your social location, as a child/ adolescent impacted your lifes chances or outcome? How were you different or similar to other child/adolescents in your family and/or in school? What unique challenges did you face in this regard? Were the differences or challenges invisible or visible? Did you as a child/adolescent feel safe in the world or in your environment? Why? Or Why not? Were you at risk as a child/adolescent? What factors contributed to this? And, what resources aided in your successful navigation as a child/adolescent? Write about 3 defining moments for you during your child/adolescent years. These defining moments that really stand out for you could be from experiences in school, in family, or in church, or in a community center (i.e., boys and girls club) which hasfundamentally shaped who you are, as a person today. These moments not only impacted you, but also shaped who you are, what you are, and your overall self-image. Write about your reason for working with urban at risk children/adolescents. Are you currently working with children/youth in a K-12 setting? If so, what experience have you had, or do you hold working with these learners? In what ways do you wish to contribute to the lives of young student learners (K-12) in urban settings?
