Moral development

Moral development
Project description
Topic: Moral Development

Max is a thirteen-year-old boy in middle school who comes from good Christian parents and attends church regularly. Max does not like science, and as a consequence, he does not put forth his best effort in class. Currently, Max has a “C” in science. He knows that if he does not get an “A” on his next test, then his parents will be very upset and more than likely will not allow him to play on the soccer team. So he decides to cheat on his science test. You are a youth worker at his church. Max confesses to you he has cheated on his test.

Using relevant information from Chapter 7 of your textbook and the Bible, please address the following prompts:
What factors may have contributed to Max’s decision to cheat despite his moral upbringing?
Why do you think Max chose to tell you, a church youth worker, that he cheated instead of telling his parents?
What advice would you give Max to deal with the situation right away?
What creative intervention would you take in order to make this situation an instructive experience in which Max has the opportunity to develop a lasting, more Godly character?
Please make sure that you cite material from the textbook and the Bible as you address these four main issues, and be sure to format your citations according to current APA guidelines. Also, all of your posts should be written in a formal, college-level tone that conforms to the rules of Standard Written English grammar, syntax, diction, and punctuation.Your thread is due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Friday of Module/Week 5, and you must reply to 2 other students’ threads by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Monday of the same module/week.

Moral Development

Lawrence Kohlberg identified six stages of moral development that he later modified to five. He assessed people’s stage of development based on an ethical dilemma in a fictitious scenario that he calls “the Heinz dilemma.”

In your studies this week, you read Coon and Mitterer’s discussion on the stages of development (pages 111–113). You also read the article on the Heinz dilemma and viewed the video Kohlberg’s Stages of Moral Development on the Simply Psychology Web site. http://www.simplypsychology.org/kohlberg.html

For this discussion, either search the Internet for another Heinz dilemma interview or conduct an interview of your own with a family member, friend, or co-worker. Then complete the following:

Describe the person’s response to the dilemma Heinz faced.
Identify the stage from Kohlberg’s theory of moral development that best fits with the interviewee’s responses.
Justify your decision by being specific about what aspects of the interviewee’s description fit with the stage as defined by Kohlberg.
Describe strengths of and challenges to Kohlberg’s theory by writing in your own words and paraphrasing and citing sources. Avoid copying and pasting from sources.
Use both in-text citations and full references to cite your sources with APA (6th edition) style and formatting.
Response Guidelines
Provide substantive responses to the initial posts of at least two other learners. Contribute to the conversation by asking questions, respectfully debating positions, or responding freely to the topic at hand. Your responses should reference assigned readings as well as other academic references that support your views and writings. Use APA (6th edition) style and formatting for citing your references.

Note: As you read through the posts of your peers, you might find opinions and value sets that differ from your own. Remember to be respectful of others’ opinions and value perspectives.
