-Here is a sample of my writing
The devastating problem to me was the gradual loss of land that the Native American women faced Regardless of what they did the U S military or settlers were constantly moving forward trying to take their land passed down to them by their ancestors If they did not passively give up their land it was taken by force and they were left displaced and destitute In our text quot; the Lakotas began to practice a new religion the Ghost Dance which promised restoration of their traditional land and lives Male and female dancers alike wore special robes said to be designed by a woman that they believed would protect them against bullets by white people quot; Debois pg 391 It is very sad that these women had faith that one day their land might be restored and that they would be protected from the men who persecuted them The Natives were then massacred and the few that survived were forced to confinement on reservations The Native women who were used to living off the land were then stuck in the vicious cycle of depending off the government for aid because they had lost the majority of their natural resources Then the Native women who were mothers were basically forced to send their children to U S run boarding schools where the children were compelled to assimilate to the white man apos;s world In my mind there was no way that these poor women could escape these problems so long as the people making the decisions in the United States government were intentionally trying to dispose of the native population either by assimilation or apos;breeding out quot; their culture
