In the goal setting exercise you need to (1) summarize a key point from What Color Is Your Parachute? (2) state a career mission and (3) state-specific career goals. The exercise must be no more than one page. The paper must be typed, have one-inch margins, have 12-point type, and be double-spaced.

Before performing the goal setting exercise, you must read Richard N. Bolles’s What Color Is Your Parachute? The book concerns goal setting, career formulation, and job search. After reading the book (and after reading Chapter Two in Developing Management Skills), write the essay using the following format:

(1) Paragraph I. Briefly summarize one key point in What Color Is Your Parachute? that is relevant for you to set your mission statement and career goal.

(2) Paragraph II. Formulate a values-and-mission statement. The mission statement is a vision of what you will accomplish in your career and your ethical principles that will guide your professional activities. The mission should also include a picture of a key accomplishment.

(3) Paragraph III. Formulate a brief set of specific, measurable, achievable-but- difficult, realistic, and time-based (SMART) goals that will implement your mission over the first five years after graduation.
