Using the three examples chosen, the reflection paper must answer the following questions and connect them to the course:

What are the sources of persuasive messages that you personally receive?
How do these three messages change your perceptions of yourself, your personal environment and the society you live in?
Why are some of the messages you receive more persuasive than others?
Does knowledge of the ways in which messages are created to persuade you make a difference when you consume messages? If so, how? If not, why do you think this is?
The reflection paper itself must have a clear introductory paragraph that summarizes the position taken, a logical argument for the position supported by at least three readings and a clear conclusion that sums up the position. No other research is needed or allowed for this assignment. The paper must have a bibliography citing the three examples you chose and the three course readings used to support your position on a separate page at the end of the paper.

A separate cover page for the essay must include: the title “Reflection Paper,” the course number and name, the student’s name and student number, the name of the teaching assistant (this is important!) and the date.

The reflection paper should be 4 double-spaced pages long (about 900 words) and cannot be shorter than 3 pages (about 700 words) or longer than 5 pages (about 1,100 words). There should not be any extra line spacing between paragraphs. Each page except the title page should have a page number. The essay should be typed on one side of the page only in 12-point Times New Roman with 1” (2.5 cm) margins and should use one academic style (APA or MLA) consistently.

The assignment will be marked on the following criteria:

Suitability of choices of examples and description of the examples
Understanding of how persuasion works and how it influences today’s culture
Level of informed opinion and analysis
Quality of writing, including spelling and grammar
