By 430, Christianity had become the religion of most educated Romans town-dwellers.
The challenge was the fact that Christians then began to identify themselves with the dominant values of the Roman world.
By the middle of the 4th century, Christianity had gone a long way towards assimilating the dominant culture of pagan Romans.
