One of the great challenges in heritage tourism is linking theory to practice. I would like you to explore a topic (perhaps one we discussed in class) and link some of the theoretical approaches in heritage tourism to an applied situation – perhaps something in your own business and career. For example, are there new types of heritage products that could meet one of your potential markets? Or, are there heritage issues that you see that your site/business should be aware of and would need to manage? Or, could you envision a potential training program for, say, a dark heritage tourism site? Or, how might you balance the needs of different kinds of visitors at, say, a religious site? Or, how might a destination use a World Heritage site in their marketing? It is anticipated that you will go beyond just the class readings in your research, though please use our discussions and readings as your base to begin your research.
