Prent interview

New Parent Interview outline

There are three parts to this assignment:
1. Background Information
Please find someone from a DIFFERENT cultural background than yours.
e.g.: Age of infant, age of mother, first child? Working mother? On maternity leave? Married? Include other information you might consider relevant (like maternal health or special circumstances)
2. List of questions you are planning to ask (10 questions)
e.g.: what were your expectations of the delivery experience, feelings, how did you plan, what was it like to care for a newborn during the first days of life, are planning on going back to work?
Note: not all the questions might be asked during the interview and some might be added. Please include a revised list of questions, with the new questions added and indicating which questions were not asked.
3. Actual interview:
You might take very clear notes or choose to type your interview. Be as specific as possible (there is more information in HOW people say things than in WHAT they say).
Plan for a 15-20 minute interview and do not go over 30 minutes.
The assignment should be completed in 2-4 pages.

The parent I interviewed was 37 year old Elizabeth Sergey. 10 months ago she gave birth to her first daughter after being married for 8 years. Liz is a social worker that works with teenagers who are blind at a private agency that is funded by the government. She planned to have her baby at full term but she had a sea section because the baby was in breech. she was on maternity leave for 12 weeks. She had no outside help raising her husband besides her husband. She breast fed the child for 7 months. Overall she is really happy because her daughter is a good baby and doesn’t give her a hard time. She doesn’t want anymore children in the future because she had a hard pregnancy. She went back to work after her maternity leave. In addition, Liz does not have any prior experience with children, so when her baby was born she had no idea what to expect. She was not on any antidepressence. In conclusion, she is really satisfied with her life and she is glad that she has a daughter to complete her family.
