Case Study of Unilever KM

You are required to provide an essay style answer to each of the following four (4) questions based on the provided case
of Unilever’s KM (on the last 2 pages). Each answer should be self-contained in terms of including necessary and
relevant information, and your own contribution (e.g. classification, recommendation, comparison, assessment, or
determination).

Q1. Describe Unilever’s knowledge assets and classify the knowledge into category(ies) of tacit and/or explicit
knowledge. Describe Unilever’s KM activities and associate the activities with the knowledge.
Q2. Describe the tools used by Unilever for its KM activities. Recommend other tools for the activities. Compare
the used tools with the recommended tools with respect to effectiveness, efficiency and usability (ease of use).
Q3. Assess Unilever’s CoPs in terms of their maturity, and determine their maturity level according to the CoP
Maturity Model. Assess Unilever in terms of its KM maturity, and determine its KM maturity level according
to the Infosys KM Maturity Model. Recommend tasks for Unilever to move to the next higher KM maturity
level, and tools/methods for the tasks.
Q4. Cathy is going to call her team to discuss the way forward. As a team member, you are asked to propose a KM
project, focusing on KM objectives and performance assessment. Describe Unilever KM objectives and your
performance assessment in terms of the results-based management accountability framework (RMAF).
