Look through popular news sources and other non-scholarly sources (e.g., twitter, blogs, magazine articles) to find an article (NOT a research study or news report of an incident) that makes an argument about a topic in child and adolescent development. Read the article.

In your write up, a) briefly identify the main points of the article and briefly describe the evidence used to support each point (not just the source of the evidence but the evidence itself), and b) evaluate the article based on the over all quality of the evidence and how well the evidence supported the claims. These write-ups will help you practice evaluating sources in preparation for your term paper.

These will be graded A – excellent work (3/3), B – good work (2.52/3), C – needs improvement (2.22/3), or F (0/3)

Grading Criteria:

–Claims (Main claims identified & described, explained)

–Evidence (Tied to specific claim, concise description [including type of evidence; e.g., research findings, personal anecdote], explained/example)

–Evaluation (Quality of evidence, ability to support claim(s), explained/example, summary evaluation of strength of article)

–Writing (Structure, organization, clarity, grammar, APA)
